Lego Carbon Racers: Green Giant

Jolly or not, this here's the Green Giant! I also call it "Part 1 of a Tiny Turbos-style semitrailer combo model," but we'll get around to the trailer another day.

I can't remember at what point I made this model, but considering how quick I was to use three wheel chassis pieces on it, it must've been pretty early on.

Part of me feels a little bad at hiding those chrome pieces back here, but in my opinion, it looks pretty realistic there.

Good ol' GIF rotation. I also just got back from Google, and the term I'm looking for to justify that engine's position is "Cabover Semi." That's the semi configuration where the driver's cab is over the semi's engine. This'll become important in a sec.

My semitrailer combo inspiration was this model from Lego Racers set 8154, "Brick Street Customs." Here, though, the model went with the conventional semi engine configuration. I, though, wanted a more modern look and so decided to make a *ahem ahem* cabover semi. Also...(*squints at picture*)...is it just me, or is the right-side exhaust stack on Lego's official model a little crooked? I just noticed that. Huh.

While we get the blueprint started here, I've got to ask: How common are these jet engine pieces nowadays? I love those pieces and have a bunch of them, but that's once again thanks to a nearby Lego store's amazing pick-a-brick wall. Basically, you're going to be seeing these again on at least one model.

In case it's not clear, that 2x8 plate in Step 3 needs to have a row of holes down the middle. If you're not interested in adding a trailer, though, you don't have to bother with that detail.

Not a lot happenin' on this page. Just adding small plates.

When building this blocky bit, you could also use a green 1x4 plate and a green 2x4 plate in Step 6. Do I have those pieces myself? Honestly, I forget.

Bam, and there's the blocky bit placed.

The front is also a pretty blocky build, but at least you can't accuse this model of being flimsy.

Maybe I could think of clever things to write here if I weren't listening to cursed music mashups at the moment.

Why do I use four clips instead of two? Considering the crooked exhaust in that original Lego model photo from earlier, doesn't that seem like a stupid question?

Shh, pay attention. This part is very structural.

I know there was a reason why I didn't add those exhaust stacks until this step, but I forgot what it was.

...and so begins the construction of Blocky Segment 3.

Hmm, yes, it looks like I left a small hollow in the middle of this section. Whatever. Here at Not Enough Bricks, we do sometimes try to conserve parts.

The cab is over, and this is now a cabover semi.

With the addition of wheels and tires, the model is complete. Rah!

So, now you know how to build the Green Giant, as well as little more about semi type terminology. Next week (barring unforeseen interruptions), we'll get into the car-carrying trailer; that's going to be one heck of a blueprint. Until then!
