Lego Carbon Racers: Revolutionary Red

Welcome, fellow Lego enthusiasts, to the Carbon Races model I believe most closely resembles a Tesla: the Revolutionary Red!

I didn't really have Teslas in mind when building this. I just wanted to make a really sleek-looking car.

. . . and I also wanted to see what I could do without that 2x4 wheel arch piece in the back. Really, though, without a rear wheel arch, the tapered design and small taillight make the whole thing look extra futuristic.

Still sleek while spinning.

The sort-of inspiration for the Revolutionary Red was this Lego Tiny Turbos model I had growing up: Lego set 8123, Night Driver. It surprised me as a kid when I saw how it had been built longer than usual to accommodate those two 4x4 windshield pieces on top. You can imagine, then, how much more shocked I was a year or two later when they introduced similar windshield pieces but in 3x4 dimension. Yes, I was--and still kind of am--an unimaginative nerd.

Here, the chassis starts out pretty standard.

Here's a question I definitely don't ask during every other blueprint breakdown: Can you imagine the Tiny Turbos we'd have if we had the extended range of bracket pieces like the one in Step 4?

Speaking of that bracket piece from Step 4, I suppose I could've used a black one instead of a red one, but I do like having that little break between the car's front and its windshield. Also, I tried that piece in black, and it made the model look a little weird.

In fact, I liked that bracket's red stripe so much that I continued it all the way around the car. (Actually, and in all honesty, the stripe predates the bracket; the original model had a dark grey version of the bracket before I collected a red one. Hey, I wouldn't be a Lego builder if I weren't obsessed with little, seemingly unimportant details.)

Build up the inside . . .

. . . add the windshield pieces and wheels, and that's it!

Pretty simple build, right? Well, when you're done basking in the slick beauty of the Revolutionary Red, be sure to come back next time for a Carbon Racer that is . . . (checks the lineup) . . . also a sleek one, but it's a little less futuristic. Looking forward to it!
